GameStop to Stock Limited Supply of Nintendo Switch for Walk-ins

/ Feb 22nd, 2017 No Comments

Nintendo Switch

GameStop retail locations will be carrying a “limited supply” of Nintendo Switch consoles for walk-in purchases on launch day, the company announced in a press release.

If you were unable to pre-order a Switch, the best chance you have to get one will be to attend the midnight launch at your local GameStop.

“I would strongly suggest customers plan on attending one of our midnight launch events for a shot at securing one of these extra units,” GameStop Senior Vice President of Merchandising Bob Puzon said in the press release.

Best Buy, Walmart, Target and Amazon are also expected to have Switch consoles available for people without pre-orders on launch day. However, the “limited supply” could point to a very low amount of units becoming available at each outlet.

The Nintendo Switch is set to launch on March 3 for $299.99. GameStop is expected to offer a number of bundle packages that include the console and select games.

For $429.99, customers will be able to pick up a bundle that includes the Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and a Switch Pro Controller. A second bundle will include all of the same items plus an official guide to Breath of the Wild for $454.99.

Quick Take

If you haven’t pre-ordered a Switch, your chances to get one on launch day are likely very slim. When the NES Classic Edition released, retailers also got a “limited supply” of units, with reports indicating many retailers received less than 10 units. You should plan to arrive early to midnight launch events and attempt to purchase the console online if you want a shot to buy the Switch.
