Destiny 2: Forsaken launches next week but Destiny 2 owners can spend 24 hours today playing a free trial of the new game mode Gambit.
The free trial is available starting 10 p.m. PT on Sept. 1 until 10 p.m.PT on Sept. 2. The mode will be available for anyone who owns Destiny 2, regardless if previous expansions have been purchased. However, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners are required to have active subscriptions to either PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold.
Gambit is a blend of PvE and PvP gameplay that incorporates two of the pillars of the Destiny experience. Two teams of four players will be placed in separate maps to eliminate enemies in a race to defeat a main boss. Over the course of the match, players will collect motes from fallen enemies that can be used to drop enemies into the opposing team’s map. One player from a team can also invade their opponents’ arena to kill other players and slow down their progress.
Forsaken is an upcoming expansion to Destiny 2 that promises to massively change up the game. Players who get Forsaken will be treated to new modes, a new raid, expanded loot, and updated gameplay mechanics. Destiny fans are hoping that Forsaken will be a high-quality expansion along the lines of The Taken King for Destiny 1, which breathed new life into the the game after a year of smaller expansions.
Destiny 2: Forsaken releases on Sept. 4 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
