Friends Bluray Edition Announced
After many years of fans clamoring for the show to be re-released in HD, similar to what is currently seen on TBS, Warner Home Video has confirmed that the show will be back in HD. Originally, Friends was shot on film and has been remastered so this will be a true remastered HD edition of the show and not some ridiculous port-over from SD to HD. All 236 episodes will encompass over 90 hours of show time into a 21-disc Bluray set that will also include 17 hours of bonus features that come over from the DVD releases, plus three new hours of special features. The Bluray set will also feature DTS 5.1 surround sound audio and an 32-page episode guide that will be part of the case.
Friends, The Complete Series on Bluray, will be released just in time for the holiday shopping season on November 13th, 2012 and is already available on Amazon for pre-order. Right now the set is offered at just $199 which isn’t a big price jump from the DVD set which has historically retailed for $119. The MSRP for the set is listed at $279 so you can expect the price to jump up at some point, giving all the incentive in the world to preorder this now as opposed to seeing if it shows up on a Black Friday sale list at one of the major retailers, or shows up on a Cyber Monday deal. While both possibilities are likely, we doubt it’ll slip below that $199 price point.
There is some bad news is all this. Warner Home Video, according to some sources on the internet, has stated that this set will contain the NBC broadcast episodes and that none of the extended episodes previously released on DVD will make it into this set.
If you happen to be the last person on Earth who hasn’t seen the TV show, Friends, then take us for our word in saying that this is one of the better television shows ever made. The main characters – Monica, Chandler, Ross, Rachel, Joey and Phoebe – are often regarded as being some of the best comedic characters in the history of television.
