First Trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2

After dropping some not-so-subtle hints that the game was about to be announced, Rockstar Games released the first trailer for Red Redemption 2.

The trailer can be viewed below.

Almost nothing regarding the story can be learned from the trailer. No characters are revealed and there is only one line of dialogue featured in the video.

“Listen to me. When the time comes, you gotta run and don’t look back. This is over,” someone narrates over parts of the trailer.

Rockstar’s description in the video says “Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland.”

The Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer reveals some gorgeous views of the game’s lush western world. Several animals, including buffalo, turkey and dogs wonder the landscape. A canoe and a train are scene in separate shots — could these be forms of transportation in the game?

Red Dead Redemption 2 will release in fall 2017 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One systems, according to the video description on YouTube. That likely means the game will be available on all versions of PS4 and Xbox One, including PS4 Pro and Project Scorpio.

In a separate announcement, Sony revealed that PS4 players will get access to “select online content” first. The company also said the original Red Dead Redemption will be releasing on PS Now “soon.”

The game is available for pre-order now.

Quick Take

It’s virtually impossible to predict what the plot of Red Dead Redemption 2 will be from the trailer, but that won’t stop us from speculating. Rumors suggest it could be a prequel to the first game, and that one line of dialogue could allude to something gang boss Dutch van der Linde tells John Marston and the rest of his crew toward the end of the game.

Of course, Red Dead Redemption 2 may have nothing to do with Marston at all. Regardless, it seems like Rockstar pulled the trigger early on the reveal. Waiting a few more months likely would’ve allowed the company to unveil some significant plot points.
