Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse Preview

What the deuce? The creators of Family Guy and Activision have teamed up to make a new game based on television’s whackiest family. Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse is based on the popular “Road to the Multiverse” episode of Family Guy in which Stewie and Brian try to stop Bertram from destroying… well, the world, their lives… he’s doing something evil. The duo must travel through different universes and defeat hordes of enemies that have teamed up with Bertram.

Bertram is Stewie’s nemesis and half brother. Fans of the show know that Bertram had died in previous seasons. However, a Bertram from another universe has made a traveling device just like Stewie. Bringing back the concept of a multiverse theory, the race is on.

The original writers and cast of the show are all involved in the game, keeping it as true to Fox’s popular sitcom as possible. Developer Heavy Iron Studios and Fox are aiming to deliver in the humor department but also provide a fun, adventurous story.

Together, Stewie and Brian must go through outrageous stages and battle through hilarious enemies to stop Bertram. The duo will face characters that fans of the show will find familiar along with brand new enemies. The cover art from the game reveals clues on what will be seen during gameplay. Amongst others, it features an evil Christmas elf, Peter Griffin dressed as a pirate, and a man in a wheel chair holding a shot gun.

One of the many universes Stewie and Brian explore is full of the Amish, who have been turned to Bertram’s cause and must stop Stewie and Brian from succeeding. In some footage and screenshots of the game, one can see the two running from gun-wielding Amish folk en route to the next universe.

Although not much information has been released about the game, there are bits of critical information that has been revealed. The game will feature co-op play with, of course, the option of playing a solo campaign. Choosing to travel time and space alone will give the gamer the ability to change characters on the fly during gameplay.

There has not been an announcement for online multiplayer as of yet. However, the game will have local multiplayer in which four friends can play as their favorite Family Guy characters in an all out battle. Activision has also announced two additional multiplayer modes called Infiltration! and Multiverse Madness Modes, where players will be facing even more whacky foes.

What’s a new game without pre-order bonuses? Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse features those as well. Amazon is offering an Evil Pack for pre-orders. It consists of two evil costumes, one for Stewie and one for Mayor West. The Evil Pack also gives Stewie exclusive melee weapons and a bowie knife to evil Mayor West. Anyone who pre-orders at Gamestop will net the Space Station Challenge DLC. This pack will include an additional playable stage that lets gamers play as Stewie and Chris Griffin as they escape a space station infested with evil alien chickens.

Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse is set to release for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 25. It promises to keep fans entertained and, of course, laughing. Now I know you will want to say this when you play the game and I know I’ll be thinking of it from the start… in the words of Stewart Gilligan Griffin, “Victory is mine!”
