Fallout 76 will release on Nov. 14, 2018, Bethesda announced at its E3 2018 press conference.
Unlike previous entries in the Fallout universe, Fallout 76 is an online multiplayer experience that can be played solo or with other characters.
Bethesda says that Fallout 76 will use dedicated servers to deliver its online experience. Each of these servers will hold a few dozen players and friends are able to join each other at any time and bring individual progress along with them.
Quests can be completed solo but Bethesda’s Todd Howard emphasized that players are encouraged to group up with friends. Boss monsters can be taken on cooperatively and the rewards will be shared among friends. Building and crafting returns in Fallout 76 and players will be able to share in construction or just hang out in each other’s building creations.
Because the game has a multiplayer-oriented focus, there is the opportunity for players to align with each other, coexist in harmony, or create map-spanning rivalries. A mechanic in the game allows players to collect codes that can be used to activate nuclear missile silos and bomb a specific part of the map. This can be hive where monsters live or the home of another player.
Bethesda says that a beta will be available before release to allow players to test out the game.
