Extra Life, the online charitable event, has partnered with Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) to help raise awareness for the event and gather donations for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the US & Canada.

Extra Life enables gamers to raise money for charity and a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital of their choice by singing up at the Extra Life site. This partnership with SCEA gives participants (individuals or teams) the opportunity to earn Sony rewards for the donations they raise. Participants who raise $10 will earn a 30-day PlayStation Plus membership. Donations of $25 or higher qualify participants for the chance to earn a selection of popular PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 titles. Not only will participants be helping out a great cause, but they can also earn rewards for doing so.

To be eligible for Sony’s rewards by participating in Extra Life, select the PlayStation group at Extra Life’s official site.
The 24-hour gaming marathon, Extra Life, takes place on Saturday, Nov. 2. The event starts at 8 AM in the participants’ local time zone and ends at 8 AM on Sunday, Nov. 3. Participants can choose another date to raise funds if they are unable to participate in the scheduled event. Fundraisers, donors and fans can tune into Extra Life’s website for a livestream to celebrate the fundraising efforts of the gaming community. After creating an online profile and setting a fundraising goal, participants can select the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital of their choice from the 170 eligible hospitals. By participating in Extra Life, participants will directly benefit their chosen Children’s Miracle Network Hospital which relies on donor support to provide medical equipment, therapy programs, research and uncompensated care.

The first 20,000 participants to reach specific fundraising levels will earn: When Vikings Attack! for PS3 and PS Vita for raising $25, WipEout HD for the PS3 for $50, LittleBigPlanet for PS Vita for $75 and, the participant who raises the most funds by Nov. 3 at 8 AM PST will win a lineup of Sony’s PS4 launch games: Knack, Killzone: Shadowfall and DRIVECLUB and a one year PS Plus membership and one year of Music Unlimited.
Quick Take: Extra Life is an amazing cause run by some incredible people and gamers who can participate in the event should. It helps raise needed funds for local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and gives aid to kids waging difficult battles against illness and disease. While raising funds for a great cause is reward enough, it is good to see Sony giving something back to those participating in the event. Hopefully this means that more people will be roused to game on Nov. 2 to help out their local Children’s Miracle Network. Even if gamers cannot make the Nov. 2 date they should definitely set up a time within November to participate in Extra Life.
