Frontier Developments’ massively multiplayer space simulation Elite Dangerous is now available for the PlayStation 4.
Players can purchase Elite Dangerous and the Elite Dangerous: Horizons season pass on the PlayStation Store. The game and season pass can be purchased individually or as part of the Commander Deluxe Edition of the game, which includes the Commander Paint Pack.
Elite Dangerous: Legendary Edition, which contains the game, the season pass, and 1,000 Frontier Points for purchasing in-game cosmetic items, is available at retail for PS4 and Xbox One.
Elite Dangerous lets players explore the 400 billion star systems of the Milky Way galaxy that have been created to realistic proportions. After starting with a tiny ship and a few credits, players can take their own path through the game by fighting, trading, and exploring. Ships can be customized and players can even work towards creating their own fleets.
Though the game is grounded in hard science, a deep narrative exists that is controlled by the player. Factions can be sided with to shape how the galaxy and story will evolve. Players can take on the challenges solo, with friends, or face unpredictable encounters with other players in the depths of space.
PS4 players who purchase Elite Dangerous will also be treated to new features specifically tailored to the console. The Milky Way map can be explored using the DualShock 4’s touchpad and four additional hotkeys can be assigned to the touchpad as well. The DualShock 4 motion controls can also be used to enable headlook controls to better keep track of enemies.
PS4 Pro features have also been enabled with Elite Dangerous. Two graphics settings are available for the game. “Quality” favors visual fidelity with better graphics while “Performance” favors a higher framerate.
