What to Expect from the Big 3 at E3 2018

With E3 2018 rapidly approaching, we have a better idea of what to expect from the likes of Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft at the show. Third-party developers have already teased some of the games they will be officially unveiling at event. Let’s take a look at what we expect to see from the industry’s three console makers at E3 2018:
This E3 should be a good one for Nintendo fans. Super Smash Bros. for Switch was teased in March by Nintendo, and it has been one of the most hyped games since. It is sure to show up at the show, and we expect to see a new trailer, some gameplay and learn more about some of the characters who will be appearing in the game.
Another game nearly guaranteed to show up at E3 this year is Nintendo’s new Yoshi game, which may or may not be called Yoshi’s Flippin’ Island. We should finally be hearing an official title for the game and a final launch date at E3 2018.
We’re also hoping to find out more about the recently announced Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee games, as well as new details on Metroid and Bayonetta titles currently in development.
PS4’s Swan Song
According to Sony, the PlayStation 4 may be in its final phase of life, but there will be no announcement of a PS5 at E3 this year. What we can expect to see at Sony’s presser is more about games we already know about.
Sony will be doubling down on The Last of Us 2, Death Stranding and Spider-Man with trailers and possibly gameplay this year. You can also expect to see third-party content, such as Destiny 2’s next expansion and and the possible gameplay reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode, Blackout.
What we don’t know and are hoping for is that Sony is still showing off new hardware despite saying that the PS5 is still a couple years away. Could a possible PS Vita type console be in the works?
The Gears of Xbox
Of the big three companies, it is the hardest to pinpoint what to expect from Microsoft at E3 2018. The only game we know that will be at E3 is Crackdown 3, but that has been shown before and cannot be the main showpiece of E3 this year. With the Xbox One X out and doing well, one would expect to see some flagship franchises make their return in full 4K and HDR.
We suspect that Halo will have some type of showing, whether it be a simple teaser or a full trailer (don’t expect any type of gameplay yet). We wouldn’t be surprised if Gears of War was the focal point of Microsoft’s show, and there have been some unconfirmed leaks pointing to a new Forza title.
Microsoft also tends to show a lot of software and hardware directly related to the console, so seeing a new Elite controller or something like better integrating with Windows 10 could be in the cards at this year’s E3.
