The game is an updated version of the classic NES title that originally released in 1989. Remembered as one of the best games of that console generation, DuckTales is based on the Disney cartoon series starring Scrooge McDuck and his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie. The cartoon was based on the Uncle Scrooge comic books that debuted in 1952.
Developer WayForward used the 1989 DuckTales game as a foundation for the remastered version. Rather than simply updating the 8-bit graphics, the team enhanced the gameplay experience found on each level. All character sprites were hand drawn and placed on completely re-envisioned level backdrops.
As a Disney Interactive licensed product, DuckTales Remastered features official Disney character voice talent. Voice actors from the cartoon series lend their talents to the game while the original soundtrack is given a modern touch.
DuckTales Remastered features a tutorial level for new players. The game is designed to be less difficult than the original title. It will also include stat tracking and global leaderboards through Scrooge McDuck’s Musuem.
No official release date or pricing details were announced for DuckTales Remastered. Players will be able to solve a mystery or rewrite history in Duckburg when the game releases through Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation Network and the Wii U eShop.
WayForward hopes the partnership with Disney can lead to more remakes of classic titles based on cartoon shows, including Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck and Aladdin.
