Doom 3 (XBOX)

SYNOPSIS:
The big time PC first person shooter game that exploded on the scene is back and now available for the Microsoft XBox platform. Now console gamers can get in on the action, featuring the same great experience that the PC title offered. This XBox edition is a one-player only experience, but can be played in multiplayer via the popular XBox Live online system. In addition to this the game has Dolby Digital surround sound, content download via XBox Live, and HDTV 480p graphics.
FEATURE LIST
The most intensely realistic and visually stunning game yet — with the look and feel of a computer-rendered animated movie
Struggle with shock and fear as you fight your way, in an epic clash against pure evil
Incredible, advanced 3D graphics and physics, with surround sound and real-time dynamic lighting
Compete in vicious multiplayer action where you'll use light, shadows, and a totally dynamic world to your advantage
GRAPHICS

Playing the game on your standard 320 signal and the "HDTV" (it's not really HD) edition of 480P does make a huge difference with the XBox, so if you have an HDTV widescreen, do yourself a big favor and buy the necessary cables to make it happen. With this game, Doom 3, the XBox really comes alive.

The the graphics, although not as crisp and detailed as a top rated PC (obvious), is still a very nice achievement for the XBox. The game has a great dark tone to it, and the animation is smooth and scary as you make your way through the levels. Mars has never been scarier, and graphics on the XBox are really being taken to a new level with this title. Nice job for graphics.

SOUND
Another amazing thing about the game is the sound effects. You hear people scream as they are ripped apart, the cinematics are well recorded and acted as well. The effects for fighting and monsters are best heard in a 5.1 surround sound format – it really gets your blood pumping. There's really something special here with the sound effects – especially if you're lucky enough to experience the game with some seriously kick butt speakers.
GAME PLAY
If you played the game through on PC, then there's really not much new here for the console version. If you don't have a tricked out PC, and you're a die hard gamer for XBox – then rejoice! The gameplay of Doom 3 is one of the best FPS (first person shooter) games of 2004/2005, and has the ambiance and artistic flair to get your skin crawling. Undoubtedly, this is an "M" rated game and not for the kiddies – this is for the mature, Mountain Dew drinking 20-somethings (or older) who have some serious aggression to let out, and want to take on hell's minions.
ONLINE / MULTIPLAYER
Fortunately after you've run through the blood bath that is Doom 3, there's plenty to do afterwards in the multiplayer XBox Live mode. There's also downloadable content, but the bulk of the game is the single player mission game, and the XBox Live content. Although I can't really recommend the game for PC players that have already gone through the game, the console gamers that are sick of the PC snobs in their face about this game can finally rejoice. The game has all the same fun as the PC version, a very nice XBox Live multiplayer support, and all the visuals and sounds that made the PC game such a hit.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
Overall, Doom 3 is a must buy for console gamers on XBox looking to quench their thirst for quality FPS games. Doom 3 for XBox is a great game, a fun game, a thriller that will definitely send chills down your spine. The gameplay is fun, although though it is indeed straight forward and extremely linear (too linear for some game players' tastes). If you want to plough through a blood-stained Hell-hole and have your mind slightly warped with fear and paranoia, then you'll be quite at home here.
