Don’t Starve Together Coming Summer 2014

Don't Starve

KLEI Entertainment announced an upcoming multiplayer expansion for Don’t Starve titled Don’t Starve Together will be available this summer.

Don’t Starve Together will give friends and strangers the chance to enjoy the Don’t Starve experience. The expansion touts most of the normal features of the original game except balanced for multiplayer. KLEI teased some possible new features for Don’t Starve Together. It will support public and private games. Multiplayer games in Don’t Starve Together will support 2-4 players with KLEI aiming to support 4 players minimum.

The developer will be looking to user input to tweak and improve the multiplayer experience, much as they did with both Don’t Starve and the Reign of Giants DLC. KLEI expects to have an early alpha available for Don’t Starve owners by summer before putting the game out in a Steam Early Access Beta.

As of now, the release of Don’t Starve Together is only aimed at Steam and standalone versions of the game. The expansion will be free to all current owners of Don’t Starve on Steam and standalone. As multiplayer hits alpha, the price of Don’t Starve will increase to $19.99 to reflect the addition of multiplayer.

Quick Take

Don’t Starve is an extremely fun game that makes the survival experience both rewarding and bizarre. KLEI’s support of the game past the initial release has been exceptional. Multiplayer seems like a great fit for the game and should yield some challenging and interesting results. Hopefully, the recent Don’t Starve content makes its way to the PlayStation 4 sometime down the line.
