Destiny House of Wolves

House of Wolves, Destiny‘s second expansion, is coming May 19 for PlayStation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.

Activision and Bungie confirmed the news after the release date was leaked earlier today. Destiny‘s first major content release was The Dark Below, an expansion released in December.

Bungie has confirmed that House of Wolves will include new weapons, armor, and gear that will be used in new story missions. The story will focus on the Awoken Queen, who rules over The Reef and has been betrayed by the Fallen. Where The Dark Below focused primarily on the Hive on Earth and the Moon, the Fallen are scattered throughout all of Destiny’s playable worlds except Mars.

The Fallen are the focus of Destiny’s House of Wolves expansion.

Three new competitive multiplayer maps will be released for the Crucible, along with a new competitive elimination mode. One cooperative strike will be included but no word on if a second one will be available through Sony’s exclusive agreement. Bungie was quiet on details about the new raid but said The Prison of Elders will be an all-new arena activity.

More details on House of Wolves are being locked away on Bungie’s website, set to release at six intervals starting on April 22 and ending May 8.

In addition to the release date, Activision released a prologue trailer for the House of Wolves.

Quick Take

Destiny is starved for content. While the gameplay remains solid as ever, many fans, including myself, are spending less and less time in Bungie’s virtual world. The repetitive and grindy nature of the game wears thin as the weeks go on of doing the same activities over and over again. House of Wolves needs to deliver a significant story upgrade, fun activities, and smart choices from Bungie. The studio admits it fumbled with communicating things to players including exotic upgrades, the in-game economy, and more. Six months is a long wait for meaningful content for a persistent online world, but the rumored “Comet” expansion is said to come out around September, a year after Destiny’s release and a true, major update for the game.
