Destiny Gameplay Unveiled at E3

Destiny

Bungie unveiled the first gameplay footage of the upcoming first-person shooter Destiny in a trailer shown during the Sony press conference at E3.

The trailer starts with an opening cinematic describing some of the story behind Destiny. The Traveler is mentioned as a mysterious protector of the city but outside the city walls, strange and deadly forces await. It is up to the Guardians to fulfill their destiny and fight against the outside forces.

After the cinematic gameplay trailer, a live demo was played on stage showing the game’s multiplayer campaign. The demo showed players will have access to a Ghost, which can be sent out to explore the environment and provide light. Shortly after, a couple firefights showcasing a plethora of alien species and mini-bosses are encountered.

Eventually, the demo leads to a large multiplayer battle called a Public Event. In addition, the demo showcased a few of the weapons players will be using in Destiny.

Destiny is a first-person shooter set in the future after mankind has been reduced to one final city. Players will be able to choose from four different classes of Guardian to play Destiny, each with distinct characteristics and various abilities. Gamers will also be able to travel through the solar system as they fight in the lush jungles of Venus and the red dunes of Mars.

The game is the first title from Bungie since ending a partnership with Microsoft and teaming up with Activision Blizzard. Destiny was referenced as early as 2009, when a poster included with Halo: ODST featured the message “Destiny Awaits” with an image of a small sphere floating above Earth.

Bungie is most famous for creating the wildly popular Halo franchise. The developer handed the reigns of the franchise over to 343 Industries after the 2010 release Halo: Reach.
