Destiny 2 The Dawning Holiday Event Starts Tomorrow

/ Dec 18th, 2017 No Comments

Destiny 2 The Dawning

Destiny 2 is bringing the holiday spirit to Guardians with the limited-time event The Dawning.

This season The Dawning runs from Dec. 19 to Jan. 9.

Bungie has used The Dawning as a way to bring wintry visuals and holiday-themed items to the universe of Destiny.

The Dawning in Destiny 2 will see the Tower and Farm covered with snow and festive decorations to celebrate the Light and the season of giving. Both social spaces will be covered in snowball piles, allowing players to hit each other with snowballs. During PvE Strikes, players can hit enemies with snowballs to stun them and deal increased damage.

Crucible fans will rejoice in the return of Mayhem, a multiplayer mode that has been absent Destiny 2. In Mayhem, Guardian abilities recharge faster meaning that grenades and super abilities will be flying around the battlefield more frequently than usual.

Each week during The Dawning, players will be able to complete a milestone to earn a Dawning engram. New consumables and items will be available from the engrams and from Tess, Destiny 2’s microtransaction vendor. Tess’ inventory refreshes each week but every Dawning-themed item will be available, from exotic ships and ghosts to armor pieces.

Dawning gift schematics can also be purchased from the Bazaar. With these schematics players can travel to Destiny 2’s worlds and craft items to give to NPCs. Giving those gifts will net a gift in return. This can be done every day during The Dawning so players can max out the opportunities for presents.

Quick Take

Destiny 2 needs a bit of holiday cheer after the launch of its first expansion, Curse of Osiris, landed with a number of problems. Not only has the expansion been knocked for its sparse content, Destiny 2 as a whole has suffered from misfired item implementation, accidental stripped content from the base game, and general player unrest. The Dawning will provide new content for players to grind but it also needs to prove Bungie will be able to keep players engaged even through strife.
