Bungie announced the Destiny 2 beta starts on July 18 for PlayStation 4 players who have access from pre-ordering the game.
Xbox One players who pre-order the game will have access to the beta on July 19. The beta will be open for all console players starting on July 21 and concluding on July 23. A beta for PC players will kick off sometime in August.
Destiny 2 beta players can expect to play a number of content pieces from the upcoming game. The game’s opening campaign mission “Homecoming” that was first shown at the Destiny 2 reveal event will give players a glimpse into Bungie’s cinematic storytelling for the sequel. A three-player strike called The Inverted Spire sees fireteams of Guardians squaring off against waves of enemies and a difficult boss.
Multiplayer modes Control and Countdown will also be available to play to give players a brief taste of Destiny 2’s online competitive content. The two modes will be playable on maps designed with the new modes in mind. Players will also be able to test out the new subclasses which include Dawnblade Warlock, Sentinel Titan and Arcstrider Hunter.
The Farm, Destiny 2’s new social space, will also be briefly accessible during the open beta period. Players can visit it for one hour starting at 10 a.m. PT on Sunday, July 23. Bungie says that most of the vendors at The Farm will be offline but do want to test how many players can accommodate the space at once. Character progression in the beta will not carry over to the full game. However, players who participate in the beta will be rewarded with a special banner commemorating their time when Destiny fully launches.
Destiny 2 releases on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Sept. 6 and on PC on Oct. 24.
