Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro attended The Game Awards on Thursday night to debut a new Death Stranding trailer.
The trailer confirmed little about the upcoming PlayStation 4 action game except that “Once there was an explosion…” It sees the main character, played by Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), and a few companions donning some kind of exosuits in a sci-fi setting. From there, it only gets stranger.
Death Stranding’s sci-fi horror vibe is prevalent throughout the trailer, with invisible monsters, giant bugs and a fetus creating some disturbing images. The trailer also has some links to the previous Death Stranding teaser trailer, with hand-like footprints appearing on the ground and a whale that may have something to do with what appeared to be a beached whale in the previous trailer.
Kojima and Death Stranding are developing a history with The Game Awards. Last year, Kojima showed off the first trailer for his new game under Kojima Productions, which he founded after experiencing a not-so-pretty divorce from Metal Gear Solid developer Konami.
No release date for Death Stranding has been announced, but it is likely still at least a couple of years away. Maybe Kojima will show up again at next year’s game awards with a definitive release date for Death Stranding.
