Dead Space 3 hit store shelves this week and EA and Visceral Games already announced the first downloadable content pack for the game. Awakened DLC for Dead Space 3 will be available in March.

Awakened bonus content will release on Xbox Live for 800 Microsoft Points and PlayStation Network for $9.99. PC players will be able to download the package through EA’s online service, Origin.com, for $9.99.

No additional details regarding Awakened have been revealed by Visceral Games. The developer claims the DLC will allow players to experience the darkest chapters of the Dead Space franchise. Necromorph battles are promised to be even more gruesome and terrifying.

EA and developer Visceral Games launched the highly-anticipated third-person survival-horror shooter Tuesday. The Dead Space series is widely considered to be one of the scariest game franchises ever. The latest entry features new forms of Necromorphs and improved weapon upgrading.

Dead Space 3 follows series main character Isaac Clark as he attempts to find answers to the mystery surrounding a 200-year old infestation of Necromorphs on the forgotten planet of Tau Volantis. Joining him in his efforts is Sgt. John Carver.

The latest installment of the series is the first Dead Space game to feature co-op play. Players can experience the game with a friend through simple drop-in/drop-out co-op. Many fans have wondered if adding a second character would reduce the game’s fear factor. Dead Space 3 also includes support for Kinect, which can detect when a user curses at the game.

Dead Space 3 is available now on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC for $59.99. Gamers still on the fence about the game can try it out through the free demo. The game is sure to get more DLC in the coming months.
