Developer Deep Silver has revealed more information on the mystery character that will be joining the original survivors for the upcoming Dead Island Riptide. The company has been hinting at a fifth playable character joining for the sequel but very little has been revealed about the character until now.
John Morgan is the newest addition to the sequel to the 2011 hit Dead Island. He is labeled as the character who has been the most prepared for a zombie outbreak. He has always dreamed of joining the US Navy but his dreams fall short as he resides as a simple chef aboard a Navy ship. Determined to better himself, John has trained himself to become a master of hand-to-hand combat and will use his fists as his special technique during combat. He will need those skills to survive as his ship crashes aboard the unsuspecting isle of Palanai.
[adsense250itp]The four original characters all had very unique skill sets but John’s seem to be a much needed change from the regular zombie genre characters. Whether new weapons to suit this new character’s fighting style will emerge in the game are still unknown but it does leave the door open for a lot of possibilities.
Dead Island: Riptide will take place after the events of the original, with the survivors finding themselves taking refuge on the island of Palanai after a monsoon destroys their ship. The island is infested with all sorts of new zombie enemies to discover.
Riptide will feature many new aspects including an interestingly unique weather system that will change drastically at a moment’s notice, challenging players with heavy rainfalls and winds that will obscure their vision. The monsoon will be a major factor as it has thrown towns completely underwater and left boats as the only way of transportation. A highly desired focus on weapon customization will also be present in the sequel.
Dead Island: Riptide is set to release on April 23, 2013 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC at a price of $49.99.
