UK-based video game developer Deep Silver announced today in a press release the release date of the highly anticipated sequel to the 2011 zombie-survival hit Dead Island. Dead Island: Riptide is set to release on April 23, 2013 in North America and April 26, 2013 worldwide.

Along with the release dates, Deep Silver also revealed the Pre-Order Edition and the Special Retailer’s Edition of the game. While the names are anything but clever, the extras inside make both well worth the purchase.

The Pre-Order Edition is the cheaper of the two special editions and will feature a pack of weapon modifications. While regular weapon mods can be discovered throughout the game, the Pre-Order Edition will feature an exclusive pack that cannot be obtained anywhere else, unlocking new and exciting ways for players to fight off the hordes of undead on Palanai Island.

The more costly Special Retailer’s Edition will feature the same exclusive weapon mod pack as well as special alternate character skin that will only be available through this edition of the game. As the name suggests, the Special Retailer’s Edition will only be available at select retailers, which will be announced in the near future.

[adsense250itp]Both special editions seem to hold some quality in-game extras. Weapon mods were one of the most sought after aspects of the original Dead Island, but the customization options definitely left something to be desired. Hopefully, Deep Silver has listened to the fans and managed to give the entire modification system a much needed upgrade. The company has definitely appealed to the fans with the inclusion of alternate skins, a feature that was completely left out of the original.

Deep Silver has long been a distributor of quality games, including widely popular series’ such as Risen and Sacred. Dead Island has undoubtedly been their biggest success, with the original selling over 4 million copies to date.

While the special edition prices have yet to be revealed, the regular edition will be available for $49.99 when it releases on Apr. 23 in North America and Apr. 26 worldwide.
