DC Universe Online Getting Home Turf DLC

Sony Online Entertainment announced via the game’s online site today a new DLC pack is coming to superhero MMO DC Universe Online.

Following in the same vein of Skyrim’s recent Hearthfire, Home Turf DLC will introduce a housing element to the millions of players in DC Universe Online. The new content will create a whole new side to the popular MMO, introducing new elements to the overall gaming experience.

The most notable update is the inclusion of what are being called player Lairs. These will serve as a Batcave or Fortress of Solitude. The lairs themselves will be fully customizable and include a variety of template themes such as a sewer or a penthouse, giving characters more personality than ever before. After choosing a theme, players will be able to customize all aspects of their lair with props that can be obtained through various missions, similar to any other item in the game.

Each lair will also come equipped with a mainframe that can be upgraded and will allow access to various extras such as special allies and tech. These, combined with new passive abilities and active powers, will add a new element to the combat system. Generators will also play a vital role in your lair, giving access to amenities normally only found in HQs and safe houses once powered up. Only a limited number of these amenities can be active at the same time, leaving it up to the player to decide which they’d like to include.

Lair battles are the new inclusion that really sets DCUO’s housing system apart from that of Skyrim. These will allow players to duel in each others’ lairs in round-based combat that will feel like an epic superhero brawl straight out of the comics. These encounters will also give the invading player the ability to temporarily trash their opponent’s lair, giving that little extra sense of satisfaction.

On top of all these new housing elements, Home Turf will include a series of new missions featuring some of the most iconic locations in the DC universe. Places such as the interior and exterior of Ace Chemicals, Stryker’s Island and Arkham Asylum will be included in solo missions available to higher leveled players.

While a release date has yet to be announced, the DLC is expected to retail at $9.99 when it is released.
