Dark Souls 3 Opening Cinematic Released

/ Feb 8th, 2016 1 Comment

Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls 3‘s opening cinematic has been released by publisher Bandai Namco.

Titled “To the Kingdom of Lothric,” the trailer briefly touches on the story of From Software’s upcoming title. The CGI trailer describes how pilgrims venture north to the land of Lothric to discover the truth of the Old Words. We get a glimpse at the Old Lords of Cinder such as Yhorm the Giant, Aldrich Saint of the Deep, and Farron’s Undead Legion; possible bosses players may encounter during their grueling Dark Souls 3 experience.

From Software has always packed its Souls games (and Bloodborne) with lore. However, much of this lore is tucked away behind item descriptions, tiny environmental details, and NPC conversations. Because of this, players spend months and years unpacking the truth behind the developer’s worlds.

The Dark Souls games share many thematic elements such as bonfires, undead protagonists, and terrifying bosses. As similar as the games are, the worlds between them aren’t necessarily strictly connected. But in the trailer Lothric is described as the “transitory lands where the Lords of Cinder converge.” Could Dark Souls 3 be where the worlds of the previous two games link up?

Dark Souls 3 releases for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 12.

Please, please behave like Bloodborne. I hope they take the best of both worlds here. Trailer and gameplay are fantastic.
