Cyberpunk Announced by CD Projekt RED

CD Projekt RED is jumping from medieval times to the future, turning the classic pen-and-paper role-playing game into a non-linear RPG made by veterans of the Witcher franchise. The game’s developer claims Cyberpunk “will not be a game for everyone.” Rather, it will be a mature and brutal title with advanced gaming mechanics and various characters based on a pen-and-paper style of play for mature players, specifically.
We got to see a piece of concept art that CD Projekt showed during the conference of a character battling a giant robot. They are going to have a gigantic selection of weapons, upgrades, implants and as he said a, “cool high-tech toy.”
Cyberpunk has a rich history, with over 44 handbooks published, and a following of 5 million players over the of 25 years of its existence. CD Projekt RED has formed a veteran team from the The Witcher and The Witcher 2 that will be working with Mike Pondsmith, the creators of the original Cyberpunk, to create a new incarnation of Cyberpunk that will reflect the most popular characteristics of the Witcher franchise with some new additions.
CD Projekt RED also released information on the online store. They will be re-releasing classic games like Civilization for $5.99 and Tomb Raider 1, 2 and 3 all in a bundle for $9.99. They will also be re-releasing newer copies of games like the first Witcher title. CD Projekt RED is taking a big step to prevent piracy by releasing all these titles without DRM’s.
They did show some new titles like Tiny and Big, a unique indie game platformer, and Resonance, a fellow platformer and puzzle solving game with 15+ hours of gameplay, many different endings and four playable characters. Preordering any of these games will get you 10% off any indie game and classic title, but an added bonus with Resonance is a 4 hour preview game to try out before the game’s release.
With CD Projekt RED having pulled in around 10,000 views to their summer conference, they didn’t disappoint. With Cyberpunk already garnering a lot of buzz for the studio that has already made two gems in the Witcher series, we can’t wait to see what Cyberpunk is going to offer. Not to mention that they have added these newly designed indie games, which all seem like great additions. CD Projekt RED is looking to become a powerhouse and a key factor in the future of the gaming.
