Activision is celebrating the Crash Bandicoot 20th anniversary by releasing a pair of new videos featuring the original PlayStation mascot as he appears in Skylanders: Imaginators.
Crash Bandicoot made his first appearance on the PlayStation in 1996. The game was developed by Naughty Dog, who later went on to make Jak & Daxter, Uncharted, and The Last of Us. After being exclusive to PlayStation for four games, Crash went multiplatform.
Despite being in 18 games, Crash disappeared from the gaming landscape in the latter part of 2010. Love for the character ran deep as many players devoted to his legacy hoped for a new game at some point. Those prayers were finally answered at E3 2016 when Sony announced the first three Crash games were being remastered from the ground up and that he would also appear in Skylanders: Imaginators.
Skylanders: Imaginators features a Crash themed level and the video above pays homage to many key moments from Crash Bandicoot. Players might just be taken right back to that moment 20 years ago when they were chased by a boulder, jumping from platform to platform for safety.
Skylanders: Imaginators releases on Oct. 16.
Quick Take
From the Crash remasters to his appearance in Skylanders, it’s nice to see an old gaming mascot back in action. Activision is obviously testing the waters to see if players really do want Crash back or not. Starting next month, it will be time for people to start proving there is a place for an old Bandicoot.
