Cooler Master Silent Pro Platinum 1000w PSU

The Cooler Master Silent Pro Platinum 1000w PSU is one of the premium line of products offered by tweaker favorite, Cooler Master. The Silent Pro Platinum power supply units are completely in line with the 80-PLUS Plantinum efficiency requirement that offer peak efficiency of up to 94%. This PSU offers a modular cable design integrated with dual 7V ports, all cooled by a silent 135mm hydraulic bearing fan. This unit can reach up to 984w output at 82A, meaning his has more than enough power to provide energy to the high end gaming rigs out there, but still be whisper quiet. There’s one demographic that Cooler Master is aiming to please with the Silent Pro 1000w PSU – hardcore gamers that want the absolute best.

Features of the Cooler Master Silent Pro Platinum 1000w PSU

Is this a PSU or a 30 year old bottle of expensive liquor?

Is this a PSU or a 30 year old bottle of expensive liquor?

This product meets the 80-PLUS Platinum certification rating offering 90%, 92% and 89% efficiency at 20%, 50% and 100% load. The important thing about the features is that it supports 4-way SLI / Crossfire and Dual CPUs. So if you’re someone rolling in cash and enjoying your independent wealth, along with your dual-CPU 4-way SLI gaming computer, this is the PSU you’ll need to buy. For the rest of us, it’s nice to know that we have the ability to upgrade or add-on without worrying about the need to drop even more money for a solid PSU. It’s also purported to be eco-friendly in the sense that a max 5Vsb current will draw in off-line mode about 0.1A for motherboards to make sure it consumes less than 1W in off-line mode. The Silent Pro Platinum also uses high quality Japanese capacitors to protect from any leakage problem and to maximize the life-span of the equipment, especially when run in high temperatures.

Exterior

It’s definitely designed to be looked at, in a sleek back box that looks great if you have a see-through panel on your computer. The thing to pay attention to though is the modularized design so that you can really have solid cable management at play. There are 4-pin peripheral ports, 6 pin PCI-e ports, a connectors guide and 4 Pin Dual 7V fan ports. There’s cables to power 12 SATA devices so there’s really no worrying about plugging in more hard drives and as mentioned before there’s five 4 Pin connectors which are great since most case fans still utilize this legacy connection type.

Installation

Wonderful modular design!

Wonderful modular design!

The first thing we have to state is that unboxing the Cooler Master Silent Pro Platinum 1000w power supply is that it was mind-blowing how well it was packaged. It came in a wonderfully soft bag and inside was another Velcro bag that housed all the power cables. The foam padding inside was literally the best of its kind we had ever seen. Basically, this thing was packed nicer than 30 year old bottles of expensive liquor (not that we’re experts in that field). The point being, this is a top quality product, from the PSU itself to the way it’s packaged up.

The Cooler Master Silent Pro Platinum 1000w PSU installed like a dream. Being able to plan out your cables in this modular fashion actually made installing the unit easier because you’ll plug power cables into the PSU after it’s installed in your computer case. From there you just plan out which cables you need, plug them in and then save the rest for the next time you upgrade or add-on. The installation took all of 10 minutes total and was rather effortless.

Performance

While we don’t have access to high grade test equipment we do have the CoolMax LED Power Supply Tester, similar to other review sites. All the voltages were displayed and were either spot-on or 0.1 off which is expected given the known variance of all the variables that these devices handle. Everything plugged in wonderfully and we found that our existing power plugs from the 700w Cooler Master PSU were compatible with this unit, making the swap that much easier. Frankly, we’re surprised that General Carville from NORAD didn’t call us and ask us to power our baby down!

Editor's Choice Award

Editor’s Choice Award

There’s little doubt that the Silent Pro Platinum 1000w PSU by Cooler Master is the best power supply unit we’ve ever had our hands on. It’s got all the power to juice even the most powerful of gaming PCs and for most people, made so incredibly well that it’ll last you far into the future. Between the performance of the unit, all it has to offer in terms of power and cable management, the absolute whisper quiet ambient noise it produces, plus the quality of the product yourself (with an MTBF of 100,000 hours!) and it’s pretty obvious that this is the PSU of choice for those upgrading their PCs. At the time of this review’s publication, this product is expected to run for about $238 on Amazon. At that price, it’s certainly well above what most gamers spend on PSUs, but considering the power, performance and name brand you are getting, it’s priced reasonably against the competition. Another Editor’s Choice award for quality, earned by the Cooler Master Silent Pro Platinum 1000w PSU.

Everything you need is included, save a screwdriver. The modular cabling system is just brilliant.

This is a well manufactured PSU that was verified by our equipment to run as advertised.

VALUE
The price point definitely isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for. It'll be well outside the bounds of some (most?) gamers building their newest gaming rig. But, at what price would you be willing to pay for what could be the best performing PSU for a gaming rig?

This sucker has everything you'd want out of a power supply unit. 1000w!
