Conker: Live & Reloaded (XBOX)

SYNOPSIS:
Nearly 5 years ago Conker’s Bad Fur Day was released on the N64 to praises around the gaming community for being innovative, quirky and risqué. Now Rare has decided to remake this cult classic for the Xbox.
FEATURE LIST

Team-focused, story-driven, Xbox Live gameplay: Team-based gameplay is at the heart of this shooter, pitting the noble Squirrels against the evil Tediz. Players can choose from a variety of scenario-based missions featuring two unique campaigns-Old War and Future War-with each mission featuring its own distinctly challenging gameplay mode. Campaign story lines, comprised of multiple missions played progressively, bring an innovative and fresh approach to team-based shooters and Xbox Live, supporting up to 16 players.

Elite squad action: Players choose from six character classes, including Skyjockey, Long Ranger, Grunt, Demolisher, Thermophile, and Sneaker, each with its own signature weapons and abilities. In Conker: Live and Reloaded, team composition has strategic and tactical advantages and implications.

Xbox Live gameplay: Team-based gameplay, innovative campaign story lines, and distinctive humor all make for a great experience on Xbox Live. Online players strategize, cooperate, and communicate as a team in Campaign mode, or venture out solo against buddies in Deathmatch. Players can earn war medals, rise through the ranks, secure unlockables, and download new maps.

Massive arsenal for maximum carnage: Devastating weapons include camera-guided rockets, an acid thrower, and loads of grenade types. Operate five types of vehicles including Sky Steed, Mule Bomber, R-Hog, Toad, and Tankus and various types of equipment such as anti-infantry sentries, medi-guns, and a snoop camera. Special abilities allow players to disguise themselves or feign death and sneak up on unsuspecting foes to unload a demoralizing array of attacks.

Twisted and irreverent world of Conker: Over-the-top humor, characters, and gameplay dominate in every way with rude wit, lewd innuendoes, and ridiculous violence. The juxtaposition of the characters, Squirrels and Tediz, and their world is at the heart of the humor. The expressions, exclamations, and special effects bring out the true Conker flavor.

Wildly bizarre single-player adventure: The critically acclaimed single-player game Conker's Bad Fur Day is now on Xbox, fully recreated with amazing graphics and enhanced profanity. The game is full of hilarious situations, movie pastiches, off-the-wall puzzles, and crazy characters in an offbeat world, including horny bees, voluptuous sun flowers, singing piles of poo, and even Death himself.

GRAPHICS

The Graphics are astounding compared to the N64 predecessor but are nothing compared to what we have come to expect from the Xbox. The backgrounds are usually dull and seem thrown together. And the game still has the edges of a N64 game. Walls seem like squares and nothing is rounded off the way it should be.

I know what you are thinking, “I played the demo version and it was great”. The problem here is that in the demo you had a gun. A solid gamer can finish the game in 10hrs and 9 of those will be spent jumping around with just a baseball bat. When you get a gun the game becomes playable.

GAME PLAY

Unfortunately for Conker this game is nothing more than some mediocre graphics laid over a long dead game. This game plays like a N64 game. What’s wrong with that you may ask? Mario 64 style of play is dead, have moved on in our gaming evolution and this game will remind you why. I usually don’t harp on 3d plat formers for there horrid controls and camera angles but with this game I will make an exception.

The controls are “loose” its not something that grabs you right away but when you start having to do anything at a pace over walking the controller response doesn’t cut it and I’m not just talking about just the control stick, jumping also is extremely buggy you will find ledges that if you get close to the edge just wont let you jump and you will fall many many times.

This brings up the next point, falling damage. I have never played a game where I died more from falling than from enemies. You will fall and fall often and when you do you lose a ridiculous amount of health. Unfortunately these are not substantial falls these are jumps that you are used to making in every other game that will take easily half your health away.

ONLINE / MULTIPLAYER
The linear way the story is brought to you as the gamer is nothing special and you will find yourself spending most your time between missions wandering around aimlessly searching for the next cut scene. There were many times I spent over 20 minutes searching all the areas I had been hoping to find a cut scene.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
All and all I did not enjoy this game and I don’t think that you will either. I was looking foreword to this game the whole summer and have been utterly disappointed. This was a great concept on paper but somehow they managed to take what was a original game with great characters and a interesting story and turn it in to a lifeless soulless game.
