Child of Light is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the same studio behind the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Watch Dogs and Far Cry. It was revealed at last year’s GDC Europe by Patrick Plourde, the creative director of Far Cry 3. In fact, much of the team behind Far Cry 3 compromises the creative team behind Child of Light.
Ubisoft Montreal will be using UbiArt Framework to power the visuals and engine of Child of Light. The engine was also used in Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends. Gameplay will feature an Active Time Battle system found in the Final Fantasy series and other RPGs. Players will also be able to craft items and unlock skills using a deep progression tree. Co-op elements will also come into play with Igniculus, giving players the option to play solo or with a friend.
To coincide with the release date announcement, Ubisoft released a new feature trailer for Child of Light. The trailer provides a glance at the type of action and gameplay players will experience during their time in Lemuria. Check out the trailer and its gorgeous visuals below.
