Channer’s Gaming Rant – April 26th, 2012
Associate Editor Carl Armstrong is back with his take of the gaming industry in his weekly Gaming Rant editorial. In this edition he talks about Resident Evil 6, Borderlands 2 and the IPL 4 kicking off in Las Vegas.
Too much going on in the world lately, google glasses, the Masters the start of the MLB season, too many distractions this past week. Let’s get too it….
New details about RE 6 are coming through and all I can say is yes, the zombies are back, we have a dead president, a new virus and a chance to get back to the old school RE that made the franchise what it is. Yes, RE 5 is considered one of the best in the franchise but face it, it was fun, not scary. Capcom had to get back to its roots and so far so good. you can check out the video here.Gearbox announced that Borderlands 2 will introduce a new class the mechromancer to the game, so far the public approves the move. The class is exactly how it sounds only you can control robots.
IPL 4 in Las Vegas kicked off over the weekend with again go figure a strong showing from the foreign circuit, while the west is gaining on presentation and attraction (maybe money) the talent is still in Japan. This event though is being called the GSL lite tournament, which I have to say is a very high compliment especially with the talent involved like TLO, MarineKingPrime, and Hero. I have to say if I’m a higher up at the GSL I’m getting a little nervous at the attraction of these American tournaments to my wealth of talent overseas. Its too early to speculate what could happen in the immediate future, but history has shown like with the NFL and AFL, the ABA and the NBA something might have to give.
PAX East is coming up soon, some interesting gaming news always expected to show up then not to mention the vintage gaming fest to follow. In their most recent press conference, featuring Curt Schilling ( Yes bloody sox 2004 ALCS championship clutch game 6 pitching Curt Schilling) was apart of the panel, talked about the future of MMOs. Some of the highlights of the panel:
Challenges in future MMO’s.
Free vs pay to play.
Generating a culture for a game… check out the hour long panel for PAX East…
Gamestop will now warn its customers about addtional fees for downloadable content for its used games for the next two years. Thanks to the class action lawsuit settlement reached by the law firm Baron and Budd. Gamestop will now be forced to tell potential buyers in California, online and in stores, about either one time or additional fees for used games. Games with free downloadable content was only allowed for people buying them new. This is a win developers and a slap on the hand of Gamestop who in the past could buy used games cheap and jack up the price.Stand by for my review of SSX for Xbox 360 next week and if you haven’t read it already, check out my review of Tiger Woods PGA 13 for Xbox 360.
