CES 2015 Day Two Wrap Up

/ Jan 8th, 2015 1 Comment

CES 2016 Preview

Las Vegas continues to be the center of the tech world this week as the city plays host to CES 2015. We have already seen exciting new products from companies including SteelSeries and Nyko, and day two on the show floor gave us a chance to check out Nvidia, Blue Microphones and Snail Games. Here’s our thoughts from day two at CES.

Nvidia

Not much was expected of Nvidia coming into CES. Despite coming off the release of new graphics card, the company came out swinging for the show. Nvidia released the X1 superchip with 256 cores — more than one teraflop of power on a single chip. This coincides with the showing of Nvidia Drive, which will use the X1 chip to make cars smarter and even have some drive by themselves.

Nvidia has partnered with vehicle manufacturer Audi, and had an Audi A7 self drive from San Francisco all the way to Las Vegas for the show. The best part about all this? The car is smart enough to be able to find an open parking spot and park itself. Then with the press of a button, users can call the car back. They call it Auto Valet, I call it the “Men in Black” feature.

Blue Microphones

Blue Microphones didn’t attempt to reinvent the wheel this year at CES, but we got some hands time at the company’s booth. The Mo-Fi headphones were thoroughly impressive, delivering amazing audio quality.

The headphones have a built-in audiophile amplifier that provide richer, fuller sound and lossless audio. While consumer playlists aren’t quite up to the high standard the Mo-Fi headphones have set, Blue Microphones is taking a leap ahead of the game and preparing for the future.

Snail Games

In a surprise move that is one of the highlights of CES 2015, Snail Games unveiled the W 3D, a 3D smartphone. The device brings back memories of Sony’s Xperia Play. This time, it’s being done by a Chinese game development company hoping to break out in the U.S.

The smartphone is powered by an Nvidia chipset and features dual joysticks and physical game controls. It’s running a version of Android 4.4, but expect an upgrade to Lollipop when it actually releases. No price point has been announced, and the phone is not expected to launch until the second half of the year. This phone could be the game changer the mobile industry needs to solidify the gaming space as a valid market.

We also got the chance to meet Hearthstone champion Firebat, who is a really cool guy. Special thanks to Firebat and Team Archon for taking the time to sit down with us. Check out Team Archon livestreaming on Twitch.

Stay tuned to Gaming Illustrated for more CES coverage over the next few days.
