[adsense250itp]Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse is set to release Sept. 3 for PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Network and Sept. 4 for Xbox 360 through Xbox Live and PC, Sega announced on the official company blog.

The HD remake of the classic platformer will be priced at $14.99 or 1200 Microsoft Points.

In addition, Sega announced players who pre-order the PS3 version of the game through the PlayStation Network between Aug. 20 and Sept. 2 will receive the original version of the game that released for Genesis in 1990. Gamers will get immediate access to the Genesis version of Castle of Illusion after pre-ordering the HD remake.

Players who pre-order the game will also receive three avatars and an exclusive dynamic theme for PS3.

The remastered version of Castle of Illusion was originally announced in AprilSega Studios Australia handled development of the game. The developer previously worked on the 2009 title Stormrise and the London 2012 Olympics game. Sega’s AM7 stuido developed the original title. The director of the Genesis version of the game, who is now working at Disney Interactive, also assisted in reproducing the highly-acclaimed platformer.

Although capturing the spirit of the previous title, the updated version of Castle of Illusion will have new gameplay mechanics. Some aspects intended for the original game but never included due to the technology limitations at the time can now be fully achieved thanks to the power of current generation consoles.

This is the second remastered classic Disney platformer that will be released this summer. Capcom and WayForward launched  earlier this month, bringing back Scrooge McDuck for a remake of the DuckTales game originally released in 1989 for NES and Game Boy.

Castle of Illusion brings Mickey’s magical world to life like never before with HD graphics and gameplay. Players will take control of the famous mouse as he makes his way through the dangerous Castle of Illusion to rescue Minnie from the evil witch Mizrabel.
