The first details on multiplayer gameplay for Capcom‘s upcoming third-person shooter Lost Planet 3 were announced by the company.

Lost Planet 3 features four multiplayer game modes and six different maps based on the planet E.D.N. III. In multiplayer matches, players will take on the role of NEVEC forces or native Snow Pirates.

Capcom and developer Spark Unlimited have yet to reveal all the new gameplay features. However, the Scenario Mode and Akrid Survival multiplayer modes were formally announced.

In Scenario Mode, each team has a set of offensive or defensive challenges to complete. To make matters more difficult, players will face the unpredictable weather conditions of E.D.N. III. While the game is made up of third-person action, gamers will be able to use Vital Suits to compete in first-person combat.

Akrid Survival mode puts a twist on the Horde and Zombies modes most multiplayer gamers are familiar with. Two teams of three players will have to separately fight off waves of Akrid. After all waves are defeated, the teams go at it in a final Players-vs-Player elimination round.

Lost Planet 3 is expected to release Aug. 27 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The game was originally announced for a launch in June but was delayed a few months due to “business reasons.”

Capcom released a trailer featuring the multiplayer elements of Lost Planet 3. The trailer can be viewed below.
