Street Fighter is turning 25

Great news Street Fighter fans! Capcom is rolling out a whole slew of exciting events and goodies for the 25th anniversary of their Street Fighter franchise.

First, there’s the anniversary collection set that includes Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online Edition, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition with all costume DLC, and Street Fighter X Tekken including all character and Swap Costume DLC. Also included in the collection are a soundtrack, a light-up Ryu statue, a Street Fighter documentary, a hardcover art book, and a replica of Ryu’s black belt. The set can be pre-ordered now for $149.99 from the Capcom store for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It is set to release on September 18.

On top of the cornucopia of treats, Capcom will hold a tournament starting this weekend, July 28 and 29. The qualifying round is free to enter, but it costs a refundable $20 to reserve a spot. The prize pool for the tournament includes $500,000 worth of cash and non-cash prizes. The grand finals will include players who have qualified at events throughout the year and will be held in San Francisco, CA on December 8.

In addition to the tournament, Capcom will be holding a Street Fighter themed art exhibition. Working together with the creative forces at iam8bit, Capcom will be featuring the work of over 50 artists from around the world at a gallery in Los Angeles. The gallery is open on August 3 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and will include several one-night only exhibits, including a “Bonus Round” which promises to “transport attendees into the game.” The gallery will be free, open to all ages, and continue to run until August 19.

Finally, Capcom is releasing a limited edition chess set featuring the Street Fighter characters facing off in the classic strategic boardgame. While this seems like many of the special edition dark colored, glass top, high-quality box chess sets seen in the past, this one still packs a bit of a punch. The most unique part of this chess set is the unique character figures for most of the pieces. The resin figures are colored silver and pewter and store neatly in protective slots underneath the chess board. The set is available for preorder right now for $299.95 and will be released this August.
