Activision and Treyarch announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is receiving two betas in August and September to show off the game’s multiplayer and battle royale modes before it launches on Oct. 12.
PlayStation 4 owners will be the first to get into the multiplayer beta when it starts on Aug. 3 at 10am PT and concludes on Aug. 6 at 10am PT. The following week on Aug. 10, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners will be able to play the beta until Aug. 13. PC beta early access starts on Aug. 10 exclusively through Battle.net but goes open on Aug. 11 and concludes on Aug. 13.
Multiplayer beta participants will receive a unique calling card that can be displayed when the full game launches. Additionally, any player who achieves max rank in the beta will get a permanent unlock token that can be used on any piece of Create-a-Class content when the game launches.
Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, and new objective-based mode Control will be available to play during the beta period. Control features both teams alternating between attacking and defending two objectives where each team has a limited number of lives. Six maps will be playable with two being seen for the first time by the public. New Specialists will be available to play, while Nomad and Prophet from Black Ops 3 will also be playable.
Black Ops 4 features the return of the Pick 10 system where players were able to pick any ten weapons, equipment, and perks for their Create-a-Class character. Each Specialist is given special issue equipment that does not cost a Pick 10 point. New gear is available that enhances a playstyle along with operator mods, which are unique attachments for specific guns.
Call of Duty’s first battle royale mode, Blackout, will have its own unique beta in September first on PlayStation 4. Treyarch and Activision have been keeping the mode close to the chest so players have virtually no idea how it will play or what it will look like. Few details have been provided on what can be expected from the Blackout beta outside that more information will be revealed closer to the end of the summer.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 releases on Oct. 12, 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
