Call of Duty Advanced Warfare will be the next entry in the popular Call of Duty franchise, publisher Activision announced with a debut trailer for the game. Call of Duty Advanced Warfare will release Nov. 4.

Developed by Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is focused around a soldier of fortune group. The group, led by a private military contractor, has turned against the United States.

Actor Kevin Spacey–of House of Cards fame–stars as the group’s leader, providing both his voice and his likeness. Spacey’s character narrates the new gameplay trailer speaking out against America and its failings as a democratic country and its attempt to establish democracy in other countries.

Advanced Warfare is set in the battlegrounds of the future. Wars are fought with advanced technology and tactics. Cloaked airships, battle exoskeletons, high-tech war machines and more are featured in the trailer. The trailer states that all footage was captured from the Xbox One version of the game.

Quick Take

Advanced Warfare is a definite departure from previous Call of Duty games. While Ghosts and Black Ops 2 had their share of advanced technology, it was nothing like this. The gadgets and tech look fun but it’s the soldier’s combat exoskeletons that steal the show. That kind of mechanic has the potential to drastically alter the way Call of Duty will be played. Even with the explosions and incredible graphics, Spacey’s performance really gave the reveal trailer power. It will be interesting to see how the game’s story plays out.
