BlizzCon 2013 is over and it is now time to reflect on all the epicness that just occurred. Blizzard gave their fans what they wanted and more. We have five awesome games from Blizzard Entertainment including: Diablo 3, World of Warcraft, StarCraft, Heroes of the Storm and Hearthstone. There was also an announcement for the Warcraft movie that takes place during the first Warcraft game. It will be coming out in 2015.
World of Warcraft will add a new expansion to the game with Warlords of Draenor. There are so many exciting things happening with this new expansion. The original eight characters have improved character models. Blizzard has increased the level cap by ten from ninety to one-hundred. Also, in the expansion they are bringing new talents to each class. In the spirit of friendship, the player can boost one character to level ninety and not have to spend any time leveling up that character. This feature is great because the player can instantly play a high level character and not have to wait to play with other players. There are garrisons in Warlords of Draenor where the player can build their own town in any area of Draenor. The player can create certain buildings in the garrison and the buildings can level up.
The demo for Warlords of Draenor was exciting to play. The story was engaging. It is about Garrosh Hellscream, who breaks free and wants to go back in time when the leaders and members of the Horde were orcs. Garrosh goes back in time with help from an unknown character. The orcs are attacking Draenei and the player gets to explore the Draenor lifestyle before the events that destroyed the planet and created the Outlands. It is a very lore heavy expansion. There is an adventures guide that is helpful for new players or returning players that have missed some of the story line. The guide is in game, so it can be pulled up at any time.
StarCraft 2 had a world wide invitational tournament, which was amazing to watch. The prize money was $100,000 and the bragging rights of being call the top player of StarCraft 2. The winner of the tournament was “sOs”. Even though there were not any announcements for this game, the international competition for the StarCraft 2 tournament is like none other.
At BlizzCon 2013 there was a demo for the Diablo 3 expansion, Reaper of Souls. The story involves the Angel of Death who wants to take the Black Soulstone that contains Diablo’s soul from the angels. This expansion was available for demo on the PS4 and PC.
Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard’s new multiplayer online battle arena PC game, which was previously known as Blizzard All-Stars. The demo of this game was a lot of fun. It is easy to play; the matches ended fast usually within 20 minutes. It incorporates all the Blizzard iconic characters from across the Blizzard franchises of Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft. The demo was the alpha version and a very early look at what the game is about.
BlizzCon left the fans (including this reviewer) extremely satisfied this year and even more satisfied than the previous BlizzCon in 2011. Even though Project Titan was not announced this year, again. However, Blizzard has left their legions of fans excited with all the new announcements they made this year. Especially, the fact the expansions for World of Warcraft will be coming out more rapidly in the future.
