Below Takes Players to Death’s Door This Summer

Capybara Games released a new trailer for its upcoming game Below at the IGF Awards. New gameplay footage and a release window were revealed in the trailer.
Below releases this summer on Xbox One and Steam.
In the latest trailer we see the protagonist entering a giant cave then descending to the cavernous underground complex beneath it. Obviously descent will play a central role in players’ exploration of the game. The trailer hints at the scale of what awaits inside the cave.
The tagline for the game is “Explore. Survive. Discover.” Certainly the trailer gives an idea of how players will do all of that come summer. The bit of combat shows the survival aspect of this procedurally-generated dungeon crawler. Most of the trailer shows us what it will mean to explore and discover oddly beautiful structures and dark and foreboding environments.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard about Capybara’s Below. We got our hands on the game back at E3 2015 and couldn’t stop playing. Something about the dark atmosphere, stark feeling, and sense of unease made it difficult to put the controller down. Even though we died a few times, we were eager to jump back in and learn from our mistakes. Below has everything to make it scratch that rougelike itch we’ve been waiting to scratch.
Clearly Capybara has been hard at work making sure Below will knock players’ socks off. The newest trailer is stunning. While it is a bit disappointing not to have an exact release date for the game, the summer release window seems like it’ll tie in with an Xbox One-centric summer event such as a Summer Spotlight or another Summer of Arcade successor. Whether it is a part of a larger promo, we’ll only have to wait a little bit longer until we can explore the depths of what Below has to offer.
