Battle Princess Madelyn Release Date

Casual Bit Games and Hound Picked Games announced the release date for Battle Princess Madelyn. The long journey of development culminates in the game releasing on December 6 on PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC with Wii U and PS Vita versions to follow next year.

Madelyn is a knight-in-training who sets out on an arduous journey with spectral pet dog, Fritzy. She will have to travel through castles, graveyards, swamps, countryside and even more if she hopes to save her family and her kingdom from an evil wizard.

Battle Princess Madelyn was developed in the hopes of evoking memories of Ghouls N’ Ghosts and Wonder Boy 3: The Dragon’s Trap. The classic style gameplay should be immediately familiar to old-school gamers, but the self-adjusting difficulty ensures it will be accessible for newer players too.

It is aimed to be a smart blend between classic arcade combat with the adventure elements harkening back to the golden age of console gaming. As a result you can play between two different game modes: Arcade and Story mode to match the style of gameplay you want.

The game further captures an old-school feel with its detailed hand drawn pixel art given a new dimension thanks to the magical lighting of the Unity Engine. It also has two different soundtracks to choose from, whether it is the Classic Arcade FM/PCM or the Modern Orchestrated scores to change up the pacing and mood.

Duality is the aim of the game. Madelyn’s weaponry changes based on armor in arcade mode for a more simple approach or by upgrading them at the blacksmith in story mode. There are also special weapons for special occasions and to gain access to secret areas.

Fight through enemies in the game’s 10 levels. Each of the levels if filled with 5 stages, some which include branching paths. There are also hidden stages by gathering all the collectibles hidden in a stage.

Battle Princess Madelyn releases on PS4, Switch, Xbox One and PC this December 6.

Our Take

Battle Princess Madelyn has a ton of cool features. Its old school aesthetic, dual game modes, and original story written by a professional children’s author is super intriguing. It is lucky it won’t be long before we can play it.
