Battle Chef Brigade Comes Out Monday on Switch & PC

Battle Chef Brigade Preview

In a departure from our normal new releases format, we’ll be highlighting one of the most exciting games coming out next week in a rather barren Black Friday week.

This week the one thing on your radar should be Battle Chef Brigade.

Battle Chef Brigade – Switch, PC – November 20

Victusia is a land renowned for its top class chefs. These well-trained and tough culinary warriors are experts in taking down the monsters roaming Victusia and turning them into delicious and creative dishes. Getting into the Battle Chef Brigade isn’t easy, however.

Prospective chefs must compete in a grueling proving tournament where they must gain seven victories over other eager chefs. Vying for a coveted spot in the Brigade takes cunning, creativity, and temerity. Something both Thrash and Mina Han hope to prove they have.

Play through two campaigns as both Mina Han and Thrash. Each chef has their own personality, attacks, and culinary style. Watching each character’s journey and how they intersect is compelling. Also learning about a larger mystery underriding the tournament keeps you hooked.

Battle Chef Brigade is a fascinating hybrid combining multiple genres into one harmonious dish, so to speak. It is part match-three puzzle game, part side-scrolling beat-em up, and part cooking game. All of these different aspects come together in an addictive mash-up of satisfying mechanics.

While the game is easy to pick up, there is a lot of depth and strategy lurking beneath. As you get deeper into the campaigns, knowing what equipment, buffs, and spices/sauces to bring into battle play as much of a part of winning as cultivating ingredients in the field.

The campaign isn’t simply about battling, you can also sharpen your skills by completing hunts for Thorn, help Belchior with his research, and cooking as a line cook at The Crescent with Pontida. These different side activities will not only improve your cooking, but also net you some money to buy better equipment, tomes, and spices/sauces.

Outside of the campaigns themselves, Battle Chef Brigade offers Daily Cook-Offs and Challenges both with leaderboards.

The Daily Cook-Offs challenge you to create a high scoring and winning dish in a random battle with random gear against a random opponent. Satisfying the judges given these constraints will test your culinary skills, but success is worth it for gastronomy immortality.

Challenges allow you to work as a line cook in either normal or hard difficulties to create pleasing dishes for customers at The Crescent within a time limit. You can also compete in hunts where you must attack targets in four different areas aiming to destroy them all as fast as possible. Can you prove your worth against chefs from around the world?

While your family is busy cooking Thanksgiving dinner, you should be busy learning how to become a true battle chef. Vive la Brigade!
