Madden 25 will feature Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders on the cover, ESPN announced on a Madden edition of Sportsnation.
The former Detroit Lions rusher beat out current Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson in the final of a 64-player fan voting contest held on the ESPN website.
Sanders, whose matchups in the cover vote tournament included Jerry Rice and Ray Lewis, gained 58 percent of the final voting.
More than 700,000 votes were made for the final matchup and more than 40 million votes were cast during the entire tournament.
This is the second time Sanders has appeared on the cover of a Madden game. Madden 2000 featured John Madden on the front box art but Sanders was included in a background action image.
The latest installment of the Madden franchise will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the game. John Madden Football originally released in 1988 for the Apple II before a version for the PC and Commodore 64 came out in 1989. The first game in the Madden franchise featured no NFL license and no real player likenesses.
