Atlus Announces Odin Sphere HD Remake

Atlus announced the PlayStation 2 classic Odin Sphere is receiving an HD remake titled Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir for the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita.
Released in 2007 for the PS2, Odin Sphere was developed by Vanillaware and hailed as a classic for its beautiful art style and exciting gameplay. Vanillaware‘s last release was the 2013 beat ’em up Dragon’s Crown, which received widespread critical praise.
Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir has everything found in a traditional high definition remake. The game was definitely gorgeous by PS2 standards but the enhanced graphics should truly let the visuals shine. While the new HD skin would have been enough to justify a remake, a handful of new features and tweaks are also being added. Leifdrasir will include new mid-bosses, cross-save, and controls that feel more like Dragon’s Crown and Muramasa, another Vanillaware game. A “classic mode” will also be included in Leifdrasir to preserve the original Odin Sphere experience but with the improved graphics.
Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir is set for a Jan. 16, 2016 release date in Japan.

As the flood of HD remakes and remasters continue, the lines between console generations almost feel blurred. With so many games from the PS3 and Xbox 360 era being scaled up, it’s refreshing to see something a couple console generations old being redone. Odin Sphere is certainly deserving of this bright color of paint and the brand new audience as well.
