Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was announced by Ubisoft for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Windows PC and Wii U.
Ubisoft released the official box art for the follow up to last year’s Assassin’s Creed 3. According to a label on the Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag box, the PS3 version of the game will include an additional 60 minutes of exclusive gameplay.
The official box art shows the game will feature a pirate setting, hence the title term “Black Flag.” Taking the series to the waters of the Caribbean will not be a huge departure as Assassin’s Creed 3 featured missions aboard ships.
While the character featured on the cover is currently nameless, he appears to be ready for action. The new Assassin is holding a sword in his left hand with a retro pistol in the other. He also has two more pistols strapped to his chest in the combination of pirate gear and classic Assassin robe.
It is unknown if or how the story of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will tie into the Desmond Miles storyline. Also unknown is the enemies the new hero will be taking down, although famous pirates such as Blackbeard are likely to make an appearance.
No release window has been announced and the publisher has yet to say if the game will also appear on next-generation consoles.
Ubisoft announced on Facebook a trailer revealing the first details on Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will be released on Monday.
Last month, Ubisoft said a new Assassin’s Creed game would release no later than March 2014 in an earnings call.
