Apple iPhone 5 Rumor Roundup

There are so many rumors swirling around as we close in on the eventual Apple press conference which will purportedly occur either in late June or July about the next iteration of the iPhone. Some of the more popular rumors surrounding the iPhone 5 include new features such as an invisible tactile touch screen, liquid metal casing, new Broadcom wireless chip, front-facing high-definition camera. But for those of you expecting the new phone from Apple to come out any week now, they certainly won’t be appearing on your prepaid phone service anytime soon. With all these rumors flowing around it seems like Apple is going to have to deliver something special if these rumors are not true in order to live up to the hype around the iPhone 5. According to industry rumors, the device will be announced in the upcoming weeks and will be commercially released sometime in September, 2012.

One of the biggest rumors out right now is the “invisible” tactile screen. Tactus Technology has made a special screen using something called “microfluidics”. This would replace the conventional top layer of a touch screen with a flexible membrane. The way it works is a tiny amount of special oil are pumped into the membrane though tiny channels. This would “inflate” the keys and buttons for the keyboard or keypad. There is a marketing video up on the Tactus website to see how it works, but this is only a prototype and won’t even be ready for use until mid-2013.

Some rumors are already dying hard, like the one involving the liquid medal body. This rumor seems like it has been around forever. It’s the name of a company that produces a strong, light. In 2010, Apple paid $20 million for the exclusive license to use the alloy, but Apple had only used it for their SIM ejector tool. So, maybe they will make a whole case out of it… we can only wait and see.

As for the following three rumors, well they are very simple. First, a new Broadcom wireless chip… well that is a must because everyone knows about the reception issues and battery life problems with the iPhone 4S so that is going to have to be a must-have in any iPhone user’s wish list. A front-facing high definition camera is also going to be a must due to the popularity of Facetime – so Apple is fully expected to address the need to upgrade that camera. Everything looks nice about the iPhone, but the resolution when you are using Facetime definitely needs help. In terms of iPhones appearing on many of the prepaid carriers such as Boost Mobile, it seems like the iPhone will not be appearing on prepaid phone services anytime soon. At this point, we’re not sure what the demand might be for an iPhone with a prepaid carrier, although at this point it’s an untapped market for Apple. For now, Apple just might be content to see all their profits gained from their contact-based phone providers.

These are just some of the more popular rumors swirling around the internet these days about the iPhone 5, but are ones that seem to be the hottest topics for Apple fanboys. While expecting all to eventually become true might be a stretch, we do expect to see some of these rumors come to ligh, while others are just hopes and dreams.
