Angry Birds Star Wars Gets Nov. 8 Release Date

Angry Birds Star Wars

The midichlorians, so many.

Angry Birds Star Wars is an official reality as Rovio made an announcement this morning and released a quick, funny little video. Angry Birds took over space in their last title and it appears things are not so peachy as they have gotten themselves in some kind of space wars. After releasing an image teasing the announcement last week, Rovio officially announced a partnership between Angry Birds and Star Wars today. The Finnish game developer is taking its massively popular birdies to new locations including the deserts of Tatooine and the depths of the Death Star. Birds in the new game will resemble iconic characters from the famous Lucasfilm series, complete with lightsabers, blasters and dual hair buns.

“This is the best Angry Birds game we’ve ever done,” CMO of Rovio Peter Vesterbacka said in a press release. “It’s the best parts of Angry Birds with all new cutting-edge gameplay set in in a galaxy far, far away. As a big Star Wars fan myself, I’m really excited about this new universe. The Force is definitely strong with this one.”

Angry Birds Star Wars is set to release on Nov. 8 for iOs, Android, Amazon Kindle Fire, Mac, PC, Windows Phone and Windows 8. However, the game is not the only product coming from the collaboration. Rovio is preparing to make an aggressive retail push for Angry Birds Star Wars by releasing merchandise such as action figures, apparel, board games, collectible plush toys and even Halloween costumes. According to Rovio, products will be available at retailers starting Oct. 28 but commenters on Gaming Illustrated have already noticed items featuring the Angry Birds Star Wars name on store shelves. The game is the fifth installment in the Angry Birds game series. The original Angry Birds game launched in 2009 and quickly went on to become a major hit on the casual gaming market. The game and its successful spin-offs have been downloaded over a billion times. Rovio has maintained success while mobile competitor Zynga has struggled. That success has prompted more development from Rovio. The company released Amazing Alex in July and Angry Birds spin-off Bad Piggies as a separate property last month.

More information regarding Angry Birds Star Wars is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
