Angry Birds Go! Announced by Rovio

/ Oct 16th, 2013 No Comments

Angry Birds Go!

Angry Birds Go! will be released on mobile devices Dec. 11, Rovio Entertainment announced.

The latest game in the wildly popular Angry Birds franchise will be a free-to-play kart racer for iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8 and Blackberry 10 devices.

Angry Birds Go! will pit popular characters from the franchise against each other in downhill races on a 3D rendered Piggy Island. Like previous Angry Birds games, the kart racer will be accessible and easy to pick up and play for gamers of all ages.

Karts will be fully customizable with upgrades available as players advance through the game. Angry Birds Go! will also offer a variety of game modes. Racers will be able to collect items and use special powers throughout each track. The game will feature stunt circuits and air tracks to mix up gameplay.

The game will also take advantage of Hasbro’s Telepod technology. The technology allows players to scan Angry Birds toys purchased separately into the game in a way similar to the Skylanders titles.

Rovio released a debut trailer to go along with the announcement of Angry Birds Go! The first official gameplay trailer can be viewed below.

Our Take:

A kart racing game is a logical step for the Angry Birds franchise, which remains popular years after its debut. It is a bit of a surprise to see a fully rendered 3D title available for free but sales of toys and other products more than make up for it.

It is likely just a matter of time until Angry Birds Go! invades consoles and other forms of media. An animated movie based on the franchise is set to release in 2016. It appears Rovio is trying to explore ways to keep Angry Birds relevant and, as long as it is, Rovio will keep milking the cash cow.
