This 2-Disc Special Edition is the one to buy because it’s packed with over FIVE hours of special features. This DVD experience takes you well beyond the film, with some amazing features, like the production diary, an hour-long documentary on the filming of the movie, and other great back-story behind the scenes features.
Despite the detractors that say the movie was too drawn out, on its own merit Dead Man’s Chest is a pretty entertaining movie with some amazing special effects and superb acting by Johnny Depp. It’s a great adverture movie that sets itself up for the third and final movie in the trilogy well. Although not as "amazing" as the first movie, this second film is a good solid follow up and is sure to be a great watch during the holidays for the family (keep in mind the PG-13 rating).

ENTERTAINMENT
There were so many high expectations for this movie, and many audiences thought the movie fell short because of the inevitable comparisons to the first movie. In that light, Dead Man’s Chest does seem to be much more of a movie-cliché action-driven film with long and drawn out sequences that over-complicate the story into a 150-minute journey. What Disney did in two and a half hours they easily could have done in two. But with huge and stunning sequences, it’s not hard to blame them for keeping so much in the movie as they did.

LASTING FACTOR
Pirates of the Caribbean is shaping up to be one of the great powerhouse franchises that will produce the most popular movie trilogy this side of Lord of the Rings. Once you watch the first, you’re bound to watch the second, and with such amazing locations, action sequences, and cheeky humor, it’s definitely going to be a favorite.
AUDIO & VIDEO QUALITY
It’s hard to think of a standard DVD looking any better than this Special Edition 2-Disc set of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. The video has been digitally transferred over beautifully and looks great on your large widescreen home theater televisions. The audio has been re-mastered for Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound for a really amazing audio experience – meaning that this is a showcase DVD to show off that new home theater.
ORIGINALITY
There's little doubt that any pirate movie in history had the amount of special effects, action sequences, and amazing acting that this movie packs into 2.5 hours of entertainment. The storyline is part science-fiction, part love triangle, but comes together well enough so that audiences are kept on their toes with the story.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest in this Special Edition 2-Disc set is a must buy this holiday season. Although not as well executed as the first, this second movie in the series is still a great watch and offers tremendous entertainment for the whole family. In the Collector’s Edition the amount of extras is absolutely stunning and comes wholeheartedly recommended above the standard edition. With a fantastic audio and visual factor, this DVD receives an Editor’s Choice award.
