GRAPHICS
I have to admit that I didn’t test the game out on a PS2 – I played it on a PlayStation 3. Keeping that in mind, the graphics don’t get “upgraded” by the PS3, the game looks spectacular. The environments are very richly details and look absolutely gorgeous, and the variety of monsters, men, and other creatures you must slay in the way of your ultimate goal is well placed throughout the levels. The cut-scenes are absolutely stunning and its amazing they can get this much power out of the PS2 system still. This might be the definitive graphical game for the PS2 and will serve as a great legacy when we look back at this platform moving on in gaming evolution.
SOUND
The music of God of War II is the standard marching, pumping, dark-themed soundtrack that one would expect from a game of this style. It’s a nice fit for the environments and action taking place. The sound effects are really outstanding and this is one amazing game to play with a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound system as the sound effects wiz by you with stunning clarity.
GAME PLAY
If you were one of the sixteen PS2 people in the world that didn’t play the first game, get off your butt and get it so you can enjoy what feels like an even better game in God of War II. Fans of the first game will be absolutely thrilled with the high stakes action at every corner and puzzles that await you as you fight your way back to God status. Playing in third person perspective, you play as Kratos who wields different weapons, combos, and magical attacks as he slices, dices, and mutilates his way through the levels.

The levels are richly designed, and sometimes to get past the area you must figure out the way that Kratos is to move on, from moving objects in a particular order to a particular place, to figuring out the specific combo attack to kill a boss monster. It all works very well and fits the most basic principle of video games – it’s fun! I had a ball running around, killing people, and seeing more of the story.

ONLINE / MULTIPLAYER
There is no online or multiplayer aspect to this game. You just play, chop monsters/people up, and enjoy.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
God of War II is a great follow up to the first game and on its own two feet, is one of the best PS2 titles released in the last few years. It does what it does best – quick amazing action with great graphics and fun gameplay. If you don’t like headaches play through on Easy Mode and have a great time. If you’re an experienced gamer and already played through the first title a couple of times, you’ll enjoy the Hard Mode the best. It’s great that there’s an extra DVD of “extra features” included with the game that show the making-of for GOW2. If you have either a PS2 or a PS3, it’s a great game to pick up and enjoy. The story is really entertaining (especially if you like Greek Mythology) and the action is simply described as non-stop. All in all a very fun game.
