10 Games We’re Looking Forward to in 2018

In 2017, we saw the release of games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Horizon Zero Dawn and Nier: Automata, and the return of blockbuster franchises such as Assassin’s Creed and Wolfenstein. To say it was a great year for gaming would be an understatement.
It will be difficult to follow this year in gaming, but 2018 will feature some highly anticipated titles. Here are 10 games we’re looking forward to playing in 2018:
10. A Way Out
Josef Fares, the creator of 2012’s critical success Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, delivered a passionate, uncomfortable rant while introducing his upcoming game, A Way Out, at The Game Awards 2017. Despite how you feel about Fares’ off-topic speech, A Way Out should catch your interest.
The two-player co-op game follows the story of two men trying to break out of prison in the early 1970s and features a variety of gameplay to accomplish this difficult task. It is scheduled to release March 23.
9. Metro Exodus
The Metro franchise doesn’t get the mainstream attention of Call of Duty or Battlefield, but it is a highly regarded first-person shooter. Metro Exodus, the third installment in the series, is set to launch fall 2018.
Exodus will take players back to the post-apocalyptic version of Russia filled with terrifying mutants and radiation. The visuals shown off thus far look quite impressive.
8. Far Cry 5
Ubisoft is taking a bit of a different approach to the latest installment of the Far Cry series. Far Cry 5 takes place in rural Montana, ditching the exotic locales and island settings of the past.
This version of the first-person shooter has players fighting a nefarious cult and its radical preacher. Players will be able to visit the fictional Hope County setting on March 27.
Bioware is the creator of critical and commercial darlings such as Mass Effect and Dragon Age, so there’s no doubt there will be hype surrounding any of the company’s new projects.
The latest is Anthem, an open-world shooter set in an alien world with characters dawning flying exosuits. The living online world, which will heavily embrace live events and grinding for loot, is currently slated for a fall 2018 release.
6. Shadow of the Tomb Raider
A new Tomb Raider hasn’t technically been announced officially, but there have been plenty of teasers and hints that suggest Shadow of the Tomb Raider will debut sometime in 2018. Square Enix has said that they expect a short window between the reveal and the release, so it shouldn’t be a long wait for a new Tomb Raider game.
The last two entries have been fantastic, so we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Lara Croft. As a bonus, the Tomb Raider is also set to release in 2018.
5. Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom
Ni No Kuni is perhaps best known for its amazing animation style, but its story and combat are just as exhilarating. A sequel is expected to launch March 23.
Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom will follow the story of a young king who must fight to reclaim his throne, and he will meet plenty of allies along the way. The game will have an updated combat system.
4. God of War
God of War is an interesting reincarnation of a hit PlayStation title. This time, Kratos will trade in his constantly brawling style for dad jeans and star in a beautiful cinematic adventure with his son.
There is no firm release date at this point, but God of War is set to come in 2018, and it looks better than ever on PS4.
3. The Last of Us Part 2
The Last of Us was a deeply moving story that had a lasting impact on players. That is why Naughty Dog couldn’t resist coming back for a sequel.
The Last of Us 2 is set five years after the events of the original post-apocalyptic title and features familiar characters. It will be another major Sony exclusive in 2018.
Insomniac Games is making a Spider-Man game. I repeat: Insomniac Games is making a Spider-Game. The developer is going to make good use of Spidey’s abilities, enemies and New York City environments for a superhero game that could be just as good or better than Rocksteady’s Batman games.
If that isn’t enough to sell you, maybe the completely original story featuring Peter Parker, Mr. Negative, Kingpin and Miles Morales will. The game will release sometime in 2018.
1. Red Dead Redemption 2
It’s hard to believe it’s been more than five years since Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto V. The game has experienced continued support through Grand Theft Auto Online. But it’s about time Rockstar released a new game. This fall, it will with the prequel to 2010’s Western-themed Red Dead Redemption.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will tell circle back to Dutch’s Gang, which the first game’s John Marston had left after a gig went wrong. There will likely be a separate online component as well. Hopefully we’ll learn more about the game before it releases in the second quarter of 2018.
